Friends of Marston Vale

April 27, 2022

This month, we became corporate friends to the Forest of Marston Vale. This is an important initiative that helps to tackle climate change by dramatically increasing tree coverage and creating new woodland areas and wildlife habitats.

The Forest of Marston Vale is a Community Forest and a Charity, planting trees and using woodlands to make life better for the people and wildlife in the 61 square mile area of the Marston Vale, between Bedford and Milton Keynes. The Charity has planted over 2 million trees to transform the landscape and improve the prospects of the Marston Vale – environmentally, socially and economically. The environmental benefits of trees are numerous and well documented – they help to cool and clean our air, lock up carbon, reduce flooding, provide sustainable raw materials, and are our best hope in combatting the climate crisis. However, the social and economic benefits are also significant. Having access to green space and being in nature is important for our physical and mental well-being, which is why the Charity creates pockets of woodland within or close to villages in the Marston Vale, so the local community benefits. Trees and woodland also make an area a more attractive location for business, residential and recreational use – hence the economic benefit that trees bring.

So, very simply, trees make life better – for people, for wildlife and for the planet. The Forest of Marston Vale’s ultimate goal is 30% tree cover across the Forest area, and that means planting another 5 million trees.”

We’ve committed to supporting this wonderful initiative as we believe it is the responsibility of all people to protect the environment and ensure a safe and sustainable future for the next generations. ProjectMatch’s underlying purpose is to help upcoming occupational and business psychologists kick start their careers, working with businesses and workforces across the world. As such, we have a duty to demonstrate ethical and eco-friendly working practices ourselves and to encourage these future business supporters and leaders to adopt green activities in their careers.

Marston Vale Press Release: New 38-hectare Community Woodland as part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

We are very excited that our first yearly donation will go towards planting trees in the newly announced ‘Queen’s Wood’, named to reflect the area’s historic connection to Catherine of Aragon and its location adjacent to Kings Wood ancient woodland and site of special scientific interest. The new woodland is part of the Woodland Trust Platinum Jubilee Woods project to plant up to 70 woods of 70 acres UK-wide as a living tribute to Her Majesty, as part of the wider Queen’s Green Canopy initiative

Our Environmental Commitment

At the moment, our company is entirely digital and is dedicated to keeping its carbon footprint as small as possible on a day-to-day basis. However, where we conduct additional marketing activities and attend business events that generate significantly more carbon, we pledge to mitigate this each year through donations to Marston Vale and other environmental projects. As we grow, we plan to develop our own environmental initiatives including promotions, competitions and incentives for our student, university and business customers to take part in to widen green business practices. We also commit to continually assessing our own impact and ensuring that our footprint is priority in all our strategic planning.
